Car announcements – July 2022

Published on July 25th, 2022 | by Matthew Albutt

This July has been filled with new vehicle announcements and updates and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to choose between, not only what type of vehicle, but also what type of fuel will best suit your needs. This month we take a look at 4 announcements/updates from a range of manufacturers that will suit a number of different needs.

  • Genesis GV60

The GV60 is Genesis’s first dedicated electric vehicle. The vehicle sets a new standard in sustainable luxury design.

The front design features two line lamps which complement the vehicles body and symbolises the Genesis brand.

It is equipped with innovative technologies such as Face Connect and Fingerprint Authentication System, Over-The-Air (OTA) Software Update and a Mystic Meg inspired Crystal Sphere.

Performance wise there’s a choice of rear wheel drive (RWD) and all wheel drive (AWD) duel motors. Range varies between 289 and 321 miles depending on which model you go for. The GV60 supports 350kw ultra rapid charging which charges the car in 18 minutes.

  • VW ID Buzz

    VW ID Buzz

Although announced some time ago as a concept, it’s nice to see that the ID Buzz hasn’t changed much from it’s initial concept design.

Based on VWs modular electric drive matrix (MEB) the ID Buzz will come as a people carrier (MPV) with 5 seats and a cargo van.

Both versions have a large amount of space. The MPV version will hold a staggering 1,121 litres in the rear, even when seating 5 people comfortably. Whilst the cargo version will hold 2,205 litres, VW are talking about offering a 7 seater and extended wheelbase in the future which will increase this space.

The battery will charge from 0-80% in around 30 minutes whilst giving you around 260 miles range.

  • Hyundai IONIQ 6

    Hyundai IONIQ 6

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is the car manufacturers next instalment in their electric vehicle range.

It is estimated that the WLTP will be over 379 miles per charge. Which if this is the case, could be a real game changer in the market with only a handful of vehicles being able to offer this sort of range at the moment.

The IONIQ 6 will be available in 12 colours ranging from greys, silvers and blacks, all the way up to Transmission Blue Pearl, Ultimate Red and Digital Green Pearl.

The rear of the car follows on from the IONIQ 5 with integrated parametric pixel lights, which really gives the IONIQ range a distinctive look.

The interior is designed to be human centric with ergonomically designed easy to reach controls and touch points. Dual colour ambient lighting provides overall illumination for the IONIQ6 interior, with 64 colours and six dual colour themes to choose from.

  • VW Amarok

    VW Amarok

The word Amarok comes from the North American Inuit word meaning ‘Wolf’, which is fitting given the even better off road capabilities of the new generation thanks to greater ground clearance.

Amarok fans will be pleased to know that the V6 TDI will be returning giving the pickup some serious grunt.

The interior really ups it’s game in terms of premium quality, with a digital cockpit and a tablet-style, portrait orientated centre touchscreen. Many will be pleased to hear that not everything is touchscreen though with some controls being physical buttons such as the air-conditioning. This is probably helped by the fact that the Amarok is based on the new Ford Ranger and isn’t limited to VW’s own architecture.

There isn’t anything in the pipeline for an Amarok R to rival the Ranger Raptor at present, but as it is based on the same vehicle, there is no reason to rule one out in the future.
