Thatcham Research, in partnership with What Car?, has had the difficult task of judging the safest car of 2023. The Euro NCAP test results proved this, with this year’s record-breaking findings highlighting that 53 out of 67 cars passed with a 5-star rating and none scored less than 4 stars. Particularly interesting findings considering the strict regulations that cars must now comply with.
Matthew Avery, Thatcham Research chief research strategy officer said “This is something for which carmakers should be applauded, and we are pleased so many are continuing to prioritise motorist and vulnerable road user safety – especially during times of great technological and economic disruption.”
The winner was chosen from a shortlist of 10 cars, see the finalists below:

Tesla Model Y

What car? has officially awarded the Tesla Model Y as the safest car of 2023. Although the level of competition was high, we at Agility, agree this comes as no surprise due to the Model Y’s safety assist score being the highest ever recorded by Euro NCAP and their adult occupant protection was the best in class.
“Tesla has made some bold claims about being super safe in the past, and they’re really delivering on that promise. In terms of the passive and active safety performance of the Tesla Model Y, there’s no safer place to put your family. Credit to Tesla for that” Matthew Avery added.
Although the Tesla Model Y was a well-deserved winner, there were two excellent runners-up who undeniably prove that you can have full trust and faith in their brand when considering your safety.
